This article is more than 5 years old. Apple’s celebrated free coding app, Swift Playgrounds, has just become more accessible with the release in the last few days of Swift Playgrounds for Mac.

Apple is updating Swift Playgrounds to allow app developers to build and submit their software directly to the App Store from an iPad.

For its 2024 Swift Student Challenge, opening in February, Apple has announced it will add a special category called 50 Distinguished Winners, who will be named for outstanding submissions.

Apple's covert plans to launch its AI coding tool soon comes as the company lags behind generative AI efforts currently led by players like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft.
