SQL Server has a rich feature set, and potential customers were telling Microsoft that they'd love to use it—but they were Linux shops or were dependent on Docker and containerization.

After its debut six months ago, Microsoft has released the latest update for the public preview of SQL Server 2017 on Linux, with some early adopters already using it within production containers.
