Long in the making, Oracle has finally released JDK (Java Development Kit) 17. This is the first long-term support (LTS) release to see the light of day since JDK 11 three years ago.

Oracle noted that the "OpenJDK Community continues to host the development of Java SE 7 on Mac OS X and JDK 8, the prototype reference implementation of Java SE 8.

The Apache Software Foundations has threatened to quit the Java governing body if Oracle continues to refuse a restriction-free source code test kit license for the Harmony Project.
