In 2024, Python climbed to 18% in the Tiobe index of programming languages, which rates how widely a language is used. The only other language to achieve that number was Java, back in 2016.
The South Florida Water Management District's python incentive program has eliminated nearly 100 Burmese pythons in six months. Matt Kogo removed 13 pythons in June, earning a $1,000 award.
The Python Elimination Program first started in March of 2017 and has removed more than 2,540 snakes so far. The Governing Board also voted to triple the funding for this critical program.
