On Wednesday, Meta announced an AI model called the Segment Anything Model (SAM) that can identify individual objects in images and videos, even those not encountered during training, reports Reuters.

Making that easier is the goal of the Segment Anything Model (SAM), just released under the Apache 2.0 license. The online demo has a bank of examples, but also works with uploaded images.

That’s why Meta’s new Segment Anything Model (SAM 2) is so intriguing to me. SAM 2 doesn’t answer questions, write code, generate AI images, or compose music.
