With the new school year approaching fast, we’re getting the first looks at what schools will do to make sure these devices don’t come out during the school day.

Alice ISD students will not be allowed to take cell phones onto district campuses during the 2025-26 school year, officials said in a news release Tuesday. The move, the release states, puts the district in compliance with the recently passed House Bill 1481.

The law doesn't apply to Ohio's private schools, but some have already restricted cell phone use. At Stark County Catholic schools, students are not permitted to use their wireless communication devices, such as cell phones and smartwatches, during class time.
