The server can ping everything else apart from my laptop.<BR><BR>Changing my laptop to static IP, renewing the DHCP lease, unplugging network cables... and still my laptop can't send/receive pings ...

I don’t remember the specifics of why I did the machine-id configuration (below) on my Ubuntu deployments this way, but this is what I ended up doing. Leave the machine-id on the template.
