GitHub has built its own browser-based text editor, where developers can write and edit code. It has a shot at ending the long-running war on which text editor is best.
The GitHub team started working on Atom six years ago, with active development taking place for more than 2.5 years. The goal was to make a text editor that they would use for the rest of their lives.
But a ‘successor’ is in sight. After more than a decade of helping software developers write code, GitHub is archiving its open-source text editor Atom to focus on cloud-based alternatives.
