With your game folder open, either click and drag the downloaded mod archive (.zip, .RAR, etc.) and place it in the mods folder. For Mac players, click the Go tab and enter ~/Library/Application ...

Search for the specific mod and open its website. Once you have opened the website, go to the 'files' tab and download the latest mod version, which says ' [Forge]' beside it.
