If you find yourself needing to expand or reduce Excel row widths and column heights, there are several ways to adjust them. If you're working in Page Layout view ( View > Workbook Views > Page Layout ), you can specify a column width or row height in inches, centimeters and millimeters.

To increase the width of a single column, such as column B in the picture below, drag the boundary on the right side of the column B header until the column is the width that you want. To decrease the width, drag to the left.

You can adjust column widths in Excel so that every cell is wide enough to display its information, and so that you don't see the ##### sheet error.

After you create an Excel table in your worksheet, you can easily add or remove table rows and columns. You can use the Resize command in Excel to add rows and columns to a table: Click anywhere in the table, and the Table Design tab appears. Select Table Design > Resize Table.

To change the size manually, click the chart, and then drag the sizing handles to the size that you want. To use specific height and width measurements, on the Format tab, in the Size group, enter the size in the Height and Width box.

To change the width to a specific measurement, select a cell in the column that you want to resize. On the Layout tab, in the Cell Size group, click in the Table Column Width box, and then specify the options you want. To make the columns in a table automatically fit the contents, select your table.

To change the width, do one of the following: Select the boundary of the column or row you want to move and drag it to the width or height you want. Select the rows or columns and then select Layout and choose your height and width.

To change the width of a cell border, follow these steps: Select one or more cells that have a border that you want to change. Right-click over the cells you've chosen and select Format Cells and, in the popup window, click the Border tab.
